@imyownpeople:Trained in classical music since you were 8, huh? Bullcrap, unless you are 8 and a half or you never studied theory because that is not a major scale. If he switched to Dorian mode all he would really have to do is move up a note in the major scale. Not too hard, especially if you don't know what you're doing. In fact, modulating is often easier to those not realizing they are doing it. They just follow along like they've heard it a million times because they probably have. McFerrin is using a pentatonic scale. Learn it. Teach your kids it. 5 notes and they all resolve/end on any of them. That's why Orff used it. That's why you can jam with 5 year olds with it. |

"I agree, but I think that comes from being trained in classical music since I was 8. I can't see what the big deal is as they are following a major scale to a simple song. Now, lets say they were to suddenly go into Dorian Mode and the crowd still followed. I'd be drating impressed then. |

Uhm...Actually, I'm pretty sure the amazing part is in fact that they predicted the undemonstrated notes. If the audience's unity in tone repetition was the amazing part, then it'd have to be equally amazing if that same audience could all shout "Blue!" at the same time that Bobby held up some blue cardstock. |
